Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary
. .

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...

Miso Soup

I've gotten to like this very much and have been trying to have some every day..

2 medium carrots
1/2 large onion
2 Heaping tablespoons Miso (I use South River 3 year Miso but Eden Mugi Miso is really good too)
4 cups water

Put the water in a saucepan and start on the burner to boil. Chop onions and carrots into small pieces and put in water. Once the veggies and water are boiling, reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Take about 1/2 cup of the broth and put in heatproof cup and add the miso and stir till it's not pasty then add it to the soup. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and serve in a large mug or bowl.

Miso has a probiotic effect on the body giving long lasting energy and reducing gas and other dietary upsets. The miso in soup is "dark" miso not white (Shiro). My little recipe is a kluge only because we usually have carrots and onions in the fridge all the time. Traditional Japanese Miso Soup uses Wakame (a type of seaweed which can be bought freeze dried) and Dashi (a stock made by boiling Kombu) and if you have these ingredients use them. Wakame is a great staple to use as it's an extremely rich source of minerals and calcium.

Labor Day

Well another cookout gone! I didn't have to cook! Yay!

Anyways Coreen (the other half) worked today and I had to put plugs and wires on my Buick. Holy cow! I am getting old! My aches and pains have aches and pains! Woh! The car has about 89,000 mile on it and I'm sure it was her first set of wires.

Anyways after that contortion project, I came in and made some instant Miso soup and then waited for Cor to show up to go to her brother's house for the cookout.

I did make a pig of myself, 2 ham sandwiches (mayo is icky) then 2 burgers macaroni salad (was spicy and good!) then 2 kabobs. So now I have full stomach blahs and beaucoup aches and pains.

Now I wonder how they made that macaroni salad! ;)

BTW I've added a few more things to my store, check it out!

Breakfast!

Well, breakfast has always been a tough one for me. I usually don't have much time to make very much on a work day. Here's what I came up with.

I buy all organic goods,
  1. Granola (I buy it in bulk and prefer "Ginger Snap")
  2. Plain Whole Yogurt (I buy Stonyfield)
  3. Frozen fruit (Wyman is a good economical brand and I get mixed berries)
  4. Honey (I buy it at a local farmer's market from a local beekeeper)

First a half cup of the granola in bottom of my bowl. Then spoon about a cup of the yogurt on top, a quarter cup of the fruit thawed and a drizzle (about 1 tsp) over it all. Eat!

I was doing a flavored yogurt (Strawberry) but my Practitioner said it has too much sugar. She suggested plain yogurt with fruit added. The yogurt is needed to build up "flora" which due to a penicillin thing I was given, ruined my digestion.

This is a simple and satisfying "light" breakfast with plenty of good nutrition!
